Road Trip Log day 6

Philipsburg, MT to back home in WA

We woke up to falling snow. It totally took me by surprise!

We headed into a few shops around town and fell into The Sweets Palace, a sweets shop in town.

They make over 50 kinds of fudge, 72 flavors of saltwater taffy and 20 varieties of caramels
all inhouse. To say Bear and I were overwhelmed in the store was an understatement! It was hard to choose what to bring back as gifts.

We left Philipsburg and proceeded to another ghost town on our road out of Montana. This time it was another ghost mining town of Garnet. This ghost town is one of the best preserved in Montana. You can even rent a few of them as a cabin to stay overnight in during the winter!

Bear gleefully channeled his little boy within and was ecstatic to be able to use the 4x4 and traverse up some muddy, steep and narrow roadways to get up to the ghost town. Here's our car all muddied up afterwards.

This was a interesting ghost town and very well preserved as indicated. There are over 30 buildings still intact, with little stands that explained what each building was.

For a small town, Garnet had 13(!!!) saloons. Guess you knew what the national pastime was around here. Photo below of one of the saloons and the general store.

This cabin below was called The Honeymoon cabin. The owner of this cabin let newlyweds new to town reside here rent free until they were able to build their own residence in town or until another newlywed couple came into town, whichever came first.

After spending some time at the ghost town, we continued heading west.

Drove through the narrow portion of Idaho via I-90 *waves hello at knittech*

We cross the Columbia river gorge (photo all the way at bottom). Not too much longer to be back home.

As you can see in photo below, either Frank is pissed that we left him at home, or he's ready to go along on our next road trip!

Total 3743 miles, 13 fuel stops, 239 gallons, ...over $625 in gas (ouch! but still much cheaper than to have the truck brought over by a vehicle hauling company). My first big road trip, but certainly not my last!
