The long cable of the needle is a bit fidgety and I'm not caring much for that part at all, but I'm hoping by the end of the month I will have a pair of socks to gift my mum for the holidays!Now, to somehow measure the length of her feet without her knowing what I'm up to :)

Yes, getting foot measurements can be a bit of a challenge. If you know the size of her shoe you can get a close approximation.
KnitTech makes an excellent point. It's easier to find out the size of the shoe than the length of the feets;-P
